    • Memories from our family: Granny let me set up and decorate her Christmas tree before Halloween. Mom was so excited for Christmas and Santa that she woke us up before daylight. Granny gave me my first Red Ryder BB Gun. Mom would save her tip money after waitressing to take us to the county fair. Granny would kidnap me from school and take me to the beach to feed the squires peanuts. Mom had a quick wit, kept everyone on their toes and wasn’t afraid to say what she was thinking. Granny would let us ride standing up in the front seat of her big blue car with our heads out the sunroof; and we would pretend to be sirens. When we were sick, mom would hold a blanket up next to the wall furnace to warm it before covering us up. The way her house always smelled like biscuits and sausage. I remember her hands and how hard she worked to take care of us. She will be missed and remembered every day. “In this life we cannot do great things. We can only do small things with great love.” -Mother Teresa
